Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I get the most out of my NiCad batteries?
A. Please see our page dedicated to battery care.
Q. What's the advantage of two way radios over cell phones?
A. Instantaneous employee communications. For safety, security, efficiency and financial reasons, two-way radio is the single, most widely used employee communications solution.
Two-way systems remain the simplest, most cost effective choice. Cellular phones and combination phone/radio systems charge the user airtime for all calls including two-way radio usage. The cost mounts up quickly. Two-way has other advantages as well:
|System features||Dispatch (all call)||Audio quality||Jobsite only (talkaround)||Ease of use||Durability|
Q. How far can I talk with a two way radio.
A. Handhelds have a range of about one mile depending on the terrain. Mobile and base station ranges increase to between five and 10 miles depending on terrain. In order to increase these unit-to-unit ranges, users incorporate the use of a local repeater into their system.
To get citywide service, ranges from 10 to 50 miles or more, you would subscribe to a local repeater service. Look in your phone directory under Radio Communications.
Q. Do I need a FCC license to operate a two-way radio?
Applications forms are available from most two-way radio dealers or the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) at www.fcc.gov.
